Beetle Battle
Can you believe we are on the backside of Summer? I do love summer, but the thought of cool, fall days, pumpkins (I’ll take you to the farm in an upcoming blog), football and hockey shortly thereafter makes my heart sing. Before we leave summer, I must let you know of my epic battle with the Japanese Beetle. I have about thirty rose plants in my backyard that are being relentlessly attacked by the eerily beautiful, iridescent bugs.
Nothing has seemed to work to remove them from the flowers, but I read somewhere it’s best to pull them from the bud and drop them into a pail of soapy water. It’s gross. If you have any tips, please send them my way.
Also, I have not one, not two, but three snakes that are choosing to terrorize me while I’m tending to the roses. My hubs said they were harmless garter snakes, but I see an anaconda like the slithery beast Ice Cube, J-Lo and others battled in that epic 1997 film of the same name. I hope I survive summer gardening!
Thank goodness I have writing to take me away from this year’s backyard adventures. Dante is plotted and I’m several chapters into the manuscript. Speaking of Dante, he is the polar opposite of broody Wolfe. He is bossy, but as softhearted as they come. He is so focused on caring for others he refuses to take care of his needs… until his past meets his present. I can’t wait for you see the twists and turns in this book.
Speaking of Dante, you may remember from both Rookie and Wolfe that Dante loves a good dad joke. I’m running a little contest through September. Please email me a dad joke, and if I use your joke in Dante, I will give you a shout-out in the acknowledgement section and send you a signed book. I’m hoping to launch Dante in late November or early December.
XOXO
Susan
P.S. Wolfe is about two months live and the support has been extraordinary. Thank you so much for helping me live my dream.
If you haven't read Wolfe, please check out your next book boyfriend. He won't disappoint. (Hubba-Hubba.)
